Evolutionary Enlightenment: A New Path to Spiritual Awakening

An Afternoon Presentation & Book Launch with Andrew Cohen & Dr. Harvey Cox

October 23, 2011 | 1:30pm - 4:30pm

On Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen will be interviewed by Harvard theologian Dr. Harvey Cox at the prestigious Boston Public Library to help launch Cohen's new book, Evolutionary Enlightenment: A New Path to Spiritual Awakening. The interview, held in the beautiful Courtyard Restaurant at the first major public library in the United States, will be followed by a reception and book signing.

According to Ken Wilber, "Evolutionary Enlightenment is truly one of the most significant books written on spirituality in the postmodern world." This is because Cohen offers a distinctly different view from many of today's popular spiritual paths, which often emphasize "being in the present moment" and finding peace or relief from the complexity of our fast-paced world. According to Cohen, “being here now” is simply no longer enough for anyone interested in making a significant impact on the future. In Evolutionary Enlightenment, he redefines spiritual awakening for our contemporary world, presenting an original path, practice, and philosophy focused entirely on aligning yourself with what he calls "the evolutionary impulse."

Dr. Harvey Cox is one of the preeminent theologians in the United States and is uniquely positioned to draw out the unique contributions that Cohen's book makes to contemporary spirituality. He served as the Hollis Research Professor of Divinity at the Harvard Divinity School where he taught since 1965 until his retirement in October of 2009. His research and teaching interests focused on the interaction of religion, culture, and politics. His Secular City, published in 1965, became an international bestseller and was selected by the University of Marburg as one of the most influential books of Protestant theology in the twentieth century.

In this special event, you’ll have a chance to hear these two distinguished spiritual figures speak about Evolutionary Enlightenment and why it is such an important contribution to the 21st century conversation about spirituality. Following the presentation there will be a vegetarian reception, during which you will have the opportunity to have your book signed by Cohen and celebrate the launch with all those in attendance.
